The office that created or maintains a Monroe County criminal record is the proper contact for questions about it. Court documents go to the appropriate clerk. Sheriff and jail material goes to the Public Resources/Records Division, statewide history goes to MSP CJIC, and a municipal police report remains with the department that created it.

This Is Not a Government Office. Monroe County Criminal History is privately operated. It cannot retrieve an official record, conduct an official background check, correct or remove a record, or receive an expungement filing. Those services must be requested directly from the responsible government office.

  • Current jail information: Monroe County Main Jail, 100 E. Second St., Monroe, 734-240-7430
  • State public criminal history: Michigan State Police Criminal Justice Information Center through ICHAT
  • City of Monroe police reports: Police Records Bureau, 120 E. First St., 734-243-7515, weekdays 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Sheriff-record FOIA requests may be emailed to foia_sheriff@monroemi.org, mailed, or delivered to the counter at 100 E. Second Street. A report created by a city police department goes to that city's police or clerk FOIA channel. Court files must be requested from the court clerk, not the sheriff.
